William Howard Taft, the 27th President, was born on September 15, 1857, in Ohio. He is unique for being the only person to serve as both President and Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. His presidency focused on trust-busting, continuing Teddy Roosevelt’s progressive policies, but he’s often critiqued for being less charismatic. His foreign policy included Dollar Diplomacy, promoting U.S. commercial interests abroad. Post-presidency, Taft taught law, then served as Chief Justice from 1921 to 1930, where he had a significant influence. He died on March 8, 1930.
